For women like me...
I am a student of Power lifting, I have been studying for 1 year under the great tutelage found at Elite Physique.
In Power lifting I have found a sport that I am supported to measure my abilities not only against others but against myself. I have found a sport that I can see myself enjoying and learning from for a very long time. I have found a sport that makes me stronger both physically and mentally, my core strength and flexibility are continually enhanced and Power lifting has helped create a smaller waist, great legs and fantastic posture and as I continue to train in the discipline it will continue to help maintain my physical shape into my 40’s and beyond.
In a gym that supports Power lifting you may imagine there are few women to be found but this is not true. I have found women of different ages who like me are students of Power lifting and they provide an encouraging and supportive environment. I have also found those men who teach and train alongside me reveal their own inspirational stories and give of their experience and also help provide the encouraging environment found at Elite.
The Power lifting forms, squat, dead lift and bench press seem simple when you first experience them but are complex and interesting to try and gain excellence in. Power lifting has been a discovery of what I am both physically and mentally capable of, what determination and commitment means to me and is the continually discovery of beauty in an exercise form. I think that the squat is one of the most extraordinarily difficult and beautiful exercise forms (I could write several pages on why I think this is so, please ask why if you have some time to listen) and I imagine the pleasure of developing my squat technique into my old age.
I encourage every women to take up Power lifting if only for its capacity to help development of pelvic and core (abdominal and lower back) musculature, it is a dynamic way to help prevent problems associated with women’s health as a result of having to sit in chairs, at a desk for many hours, days and years of our lives.
In every way, Power lifting can help you be the best you can be!
