Women Should Lift Weights

July 2010

Ever since the fitness revolution began in the 1970's there has been ongoing debate regarding ladies' fitness, in particular whether women should lift weights.

At Elite Physique we encourage many forms of physical activity, emphasizing that it is more important for women to include weight training in their programs than men!

Interestingly, over the past decade their has been an increase in women's only gyms spruking the benefits of weight training...Curves, Contours, Club Pink etc.  In fact Fernwood founder and CEO Diana Williams wrote a best selling book titled "Smart Women Do Weights", which is the motto for her Fernwood Fitness Clubs.

Add to this the growing popularity amongst women involved in group exercise activities such as Body Pump, Crossfit and Kettlebells, it would appear that although there are still some who question the benefit of women weight training, the tidal flow toward women being drawn to the strength training genre is enormous.

For those who still question the validity of women lifting weights here's a women's perspective as to why women need to take their weight training seriously.
